Certificate of Award (Diploma) from Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School

“I also brought a copy of a certificate of completion, or a certificate of award, from my great aunt Maude Brown who attended the Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School, which is now Western Carolina University. This certificate was awarded to her on May 5, 1914. She received the certificate for a two year course in sewing and fancy work and it was presented by the faculty of the Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School. That was about six years before women had the right to vote.”
